Johnston elementary school ribbon-cutting postponed following busing issues

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A planned ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Johnston Elementary School has been postponed following a turbulent week of transportation problems across the district.

The ceremonial ribbon-cutting planned for Monday afternoon was for the town’s new consolidated elementary school that students started attending Wednesday.

“The ribbon cutting is an important milestone for Johnston Public Schools and our community, and we absolutely intend to celebrate this historic new school” Superintendent Scott Sutherland said in a statement. “However, we believe it is important to do so at the right time when we can focus on celebrating the school and our students rather than addressing transportation challenges.”…
