PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A large share of ballots have already been cast in Rhode Island’s primary on the eve of Wednesday’s election thanks to a major surge in early voting.
The secretary of state’s office reports Rhode Islanders cast 37,444 ballots in person during the 20-day early voting period, and another 11,455 mail ballots have been received so far at the R.I. Board of Elections.
Who’s on the ballot in Rhode Island?
This year’s pre-primary-day turnout of 48,899 is equivalent to almost 36% of the entire voter turnout in the 2022 primary. About nine out of 10 voters have pulled a Democratic primary ballot, with about one in 10 choosing a Republican ballot.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday for the primary.
