(WJAR) — Rising diesel prices are increasing costs for truck drivers and businesses that rely on large delivery fleets, including Ocean State Job Lot.
The discount retailer operates more than 170 stores, stretching as far south as Maryland, and uses close to 100 trucks and hundreds of trailers to move products, co-founder Marc Perlman said.
“With a tractor and trailer, we can only get about 7.5 miles for a gallon of fuel,” Perlman said. “So the same 30 miles costs us $25. It’s pretty expensive to run these trucks.”
