When students arrived on campus for the new school year, they returned to an unfamiliar Thayer Street area — one with four fewer places to dine and drink. Since May, Kung Fu Tea, Tiger Sugar, Aroma Joe’s and Bagel Gourmet Ole all closed their doors.
Students seeking boba now have half as many options to choose from on Thayer Street. On May 14, the Kung Fu Tea location on Waterman Street off Thayer Street closed its doors for the last time, after 10 years in that location. Then on July 4, Tiger Sugar — a Thayer Street boba shop that opened over four years ago — followed suit.
In early May, Kung Fu Tea posted an announcement on its Instagram account stating that the Providence location would “be closing permanently due to building redevelopment.”…
