Where incoming Providence city councilors stand on rent control

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — If state Rep. David Morales is elected as Providence’s next mayor in November, the 28-year-old is likely to succeed in enacting his promise to pass and enforce rent stabilization within his first 100 days in office.

Morales is expected to have strong support for the idea on the City Council. At least 10 councilors who won in last week’s primary are publicly in support of rent control.

Last week, Miguel Martínez Youngs unseated Ward 1 Councilman John Goncalves, who voted against a rent control ordinance earlier this year.
