EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — If he’s successful in November’s election, state Rep. David Morales, the Democratic nominee for Providence mayor, plans to start enforcing rent stabilization by the fall of 2027 at the earliest.
Morales discussed more about the timing during Friday’s taping of Newsmakers, his first sit-down television interview since his win on primary night.
“My goal is that within the first 100 days of our administration, we will work with the City Council to ensure that it passes and that we sign it into law. Thereafter, we’re going to have to work towards establishing the Rent Stabilization Board. That’s going to be a critical piece of our city budget,” Morales said. “To get to the larger question at hand, when do we actually start enforcing rent stabilization? My goal would be towards the fall of 2027, if not the very start of 2028.”…
