PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Democratic nominee for Providence mayor, state Rep. David Morales, wants PVDFest to be held in the summer.
In this week’s episode of Newsmakers, Morales said he wants to shift the city’s free outdoor arts festival back to one of the summer months, since PVDFest used to be held in June.
Providence Mayor Brett Smiley, who Morales unseated in this year’s primary election, moved PVDFest to September three years ago in an effort to “maximize economic impact.”

“I don’t believe it should be in September,” Morales said. “We’ve had weather issues in the past, especially when it comes to persistent rain, and it makes it more difficult for working families where a child is back in school.”…
