PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — More than 450,000 Rhode Islanders will see three monthly installments of emergency relief on their electricity bills this winter.
The Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission signed off Thursday on the $28 million in emergency energy assistance that Gov. Dan McKee promised residential electric customers over the summer.
McKee declared an energy affordability emergency back in July in response to the double-digit rate increase Rhode Island Energy requested for this upcoming winter.

Specifically, Rhode Island Energy customers will receive a $20.45 credit for the first three months of next year, which equates to approximately $61 in relief per household…
