Suspect changes plea in 2023 deadly Woonsocket hit-and-run

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A man has been sentenced for his role in a hit-and-run crash that left a person dead in Woonsocket three years ago.

During a Sept. 22 court appearance, Jared Travers retracted his plea of not guilty and instead pleaded no contest to one count of duty to stop in accident resulting in death.

Travers, of North Attleboro, was charged after allegedly speeding by two men crossing Diamond Hill Road on the evening of Nov. 2, 2023.

One of the men made it across the street safely, but police said Travers struck the other one before driving off. The 71-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital where he later died…
