WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Catia Torres’ dreams have finally come true.
The mother-of-four officially launched her business Cat’s Cakes three years ago from her Warwick home, where she has been baking and designing gourmet cakes, cupcakes and other goodies for more than a decade.
Torres said she’s loved baking ever since she was young.
“I found an interest in creating different recipes and different designs,” Torres said. “I started by making my family’s cakes for their special occasions … I just fell in love with creating anything I could possibly imagine.”
Torres took a leap of faith last May. In a birthday present to herself, Torres signed a lease for a cozy storefront on West Shore Road.
“As a mom, you kind of lose yourself a little bit,” Torres explained. “You invest all of your time and energy into your family. I thought it was time for me to invest in myself as well.”
Cat’s Cakes and Café, located across the street from Warwick Veterans Memorial Middle School, first opened on Jan. 13. Torres said the bakery’s hours have been sporadic over the last couple of weeks as she transitioned to working there full-time.
