Here are some of The Providence Journal’s most-read stories for the week of Jan. 21, supported by your subscriptions.
- Providence’s North Main Street is notorious for being one of the city’s most hazardous places to walk, with three pedestrians killed there in the last year. The Journal’s Amy Russo toured the street with an engineer on the city’s new North Main Street Task Force to better understand what makes it so dangerous, and what improvements are in play to make it safer.
- Mark Patinkin has covered a lot of ground so far on his trip to Israel. He traveled along the West Bank, where the lives of Jews and Arabs are so closely entwined. He visited the site of the Nova music festival massacre. He found hospitality among Palestinians in Bethlehem as they described life amid Israeli raids and wartime restrictions. He toured the eerie, shattered remains of Kibbutz Be’eri, and talked with loved ones of the missing as they held vigil in Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square. And he found out what life is like for Palestinians in Ramallah, the hometown of a Brown University student who was paralyzed after being shot in Vermont.
