Arrest made in Barrington break-in where child’s ashes were stolen

BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence man was taken into custody on Tuesday in connection with multiple break-ins, including one where a safe was stolen that contained a child’s ashes .

Barrington police said 39-year-old Joel Reis was arrested by both Barrington and Providence police officers after a two-month investigation.

Reis is charged with five counts of breaking and entering, three of which were out of Barrington.

The Barrington break-ins happened in neighborhoods around Nayatt, Rumstick and Washington roads.

Bail for Reis was set at $20,000 with surety for each count. He was also presented as a probation violator in Superior Court.

According to Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia, the child’s ashes have not been recovered.
