PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — U.S. Sen. Jack Reed and Meeting Street leaders held a news conference Friday to announce federal funding for a new Early Childhood Family Resource Center.
Reed’s office said he was able to secure a $1 million federal earmark to help Meeting Street open the facility, which will be a “community-based, one-stop resource program” for at-risk families with young children.
“The goal of this program, this new funding, is that any family with a young child can come to us and we’ll figure out what they need,” CEO John Kelly said. “And maybe we don’t offer it, but we’ll connect them with someone who does.”
Reed called the new resource center a “game-changer.”
“The skilled professionals at Meeting Street help guide families through what can be a complex system, and ensure no stone is unturned and no door of opportunity is closed,” Reed said. “This is an investment in helping kids, removing barriers and cutting red tape, and ensuring parents can do what is best for their child.”
