PROVIDENCE — “Ella McCay,” the James L. Brooks movie starring Emma Mackey as an idealistic state governor, with Jamie Lee Curtis and Woody Harrelson, appears set to start filming in a quiet neighborhood off Blackstone Boulevard, The Providence Journal has discovered.
On Sunday morning, signs were up directing cast and crew to the “set” in the neighborhood along Laurel Avenue. The police had put up emergency no-parking signs for several blocks, expiring at the end of the week. Electricians had strung temporary power lines and lighting equipment sat on the lawn outside one house in the neighborhood.
Steven Feinberg, head of the state Film and Television Office, said last week that the movie would use the State House for filming, as well as one or more unspecified locations on the East Side, plus another city or town, which he would not name. He also said that shooting would start Monday.
