JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — It looks like the Amazon distribution center in Johnston won’t open until the end of this year.
Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena Jr. said Amazon is eyeing December as its target opening date.

The facility was supposed to open in summer 2023. But Rhode Island Commerce announced last July that the opening was being pushed back to 2024.
The nearly 4 million square-foot facility off of Hartford Avenue is already visible for miles. The city gave the retail giant a 20-year tax break to build the facility there.
Amazon will also have to invest $6 million to city initiative like improving the infrastructure surrounding the facility.
The distribution center is expected to have 1,500 full-time employees once it’s open.
