PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence family is lucky to be alive after finding themselves caught in the middle of a deadly highway shooting over the weekend.
Emelington Herrera was driving down I-95 South in Foxboro with his wife and their young son Saturday night when another car suddenly slammed into their SUV.
“It came out of nowhere,” Emelington recalled. “It sent us off of the road.”
Emelington said their SUV veered off of the highway, flipped over three times and landed on its side in the middle of the woods.
“When everything stopped, I stayed still until my wife asked if I was OK,” Emelington said. “Then I remembered my baby was in the back seat [because] he started crying.”
The Herreras, who were heading home from a family reunion in Chelsea, were miraculously unharmed.
“It was a miracle,” Emelington said. “We came out of the car with no scratches at all.”
Investigators believe the Herreras’ SUV was hit by 37-year-old Justin Parker’s vehicle after he was shot by another driver. The North Attleboro man was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
