PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are investigating after a man was shot in broad daylight near Providence College.
The shooting happened Thursday afternoon in the area of Pembroke Avenue and Chad Brown Street. Providence Police Major David Lapatin said the victim was in a car when he was “shot several times” by someone in a different vehicle.
The victim drove himself to Roger Williams Medical Center, then was transferred to Rhode Island Hospital, where he’s now stable, according to Lapatin.
At least 10 shell casings could be scene in the roadway, which has since reopened. Detectives were going door to door and interviewing witnesses in a neighborhood occupied mainly by college students.
No one besides the victim was hurt, however, many of the residents were shaken up. Lauren Moriarty told 12 News she was walking home alone when the shooting happened about 100 feet away from her.
