MILFORD — A 10-year-old girl was injured Thursday morning when she was struck by a car as she crossed a roadway near her school, authorities said.
The girl, who was not identified, was transported to UMass-Memorial Medical Center in Worcester after the 8 a.m. accident, Police Chief Robert Tusino said.
The girl was crossing Congress Street, about 25 yards away from Brookside Elementary School , when a sedan heading south toward Main Street struck her, the chief said. The child was not in a crosswalk.
“The driver got out immediately and tried to help the girl and she was quite upset,” Tusino said.

Tusino and Fire Chief Mark Nelson were the first emergency workers to arrive at the scene and provide medical care. Due to her injuries, which aren’t believed to be life-threatening, it was determined she be brought to UMass-Memorial to be treated.
The driver of the car, a Milford woman in her 40s, told police she didn’t see the girl due to some residual frost on her windows and the sun being in her eyes, Tusino said. She was taken to Milford Regional Medical Center due to her being upset.
