TAUNTON – The conversion of the former Taunton Catholic Middle School at 59 Summer St. into apartments is nearly complete and the management company is now accepting applications.
The 50-unit complex, named the Coyle School Residences, will include 45 affordable units and five market rate units. The complex includes one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units.
A live virtual lottery will be held on April 3 to choose the tenants for the affordable units.
“This much-anticipated apartment community will help fulfill the acute shortage of quality affordable housing in Taunton,” said Halkeen Management Assistant Director Hanna Wolsfelt in a written statement to the Taunton Daily Gazette.
Preference for some units will be given to those who live and work in Taunton.
Wolsfelt said to qualify, there are income categories that are outlined on the application. These rental prices are based on the combined yearly incomes of all occupants who live together in each unit.
Wolsfelt said the renovation of the Taunton Catholic Middle School has been underway for more than a year by Strafford Capital Group with the assistance of Icon Architecture. The apartments, she said, are expected to open during the summer of 2024.
