Luckily, there are simple things you can do to stay safe and warm if you lose electricity.
Close off rooms
Shut the doors to any rooms that are not in use. Taking this step will help avoid wasting heat, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health .
Use towels
Stuffing towels or rags into the cracks under doors can help keep the heat inside.
Eat and drink
The National Weather Service says food gives your body energy to produce its own heat, so make sure you are eating.
Cold air is very dry, so you want to stay hydrated too. Avoid drinking caffeine or alcohol as those types of beverages may make you more dehydrated and lower your body’s ability to keep warm.
