PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — The murals that once hung in McCoy Stadium are going to be auctioned off next month. The stories behind them are also being told in a new book.
Andrew Tuteken teaches at Cumberland High School and published “Murals of McCoy” last year. He was able to see the original paintings in person after connecting with the artist who created them.
“Tayo Heuser still lives in Rhode Island and I got in touch with her. Lo and behold, we got a chance to go look at the 42 original hand-painted ones she completed in the 90s,” Tuteken explained.

The North Smithfield native wants to keep his memories of McCoy alive and share them with future generations.
“The larger-than-life feelings that they provided 20 years ago when they adorned the walls, it still was there,” he said.
The murals were purchased by Gary Sullivan, a Seekonk antiques dealer, after being replaced by digital prints in the early 2000s.
