West Warwick’s Providence Street Bridge to close nights, Oct. 15-17, for work on bridge

WEST WARWICK – The Providence Street Bridge, which takes local traffic over Interstate 295, will be closed at night from Oct. 15-17 as crews work on the bridge’s piers.

The bridge work, and closures, will take place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Oct. 15, 16 and 17, according to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation.

A detour will take traffic via Route 2 and East Avenue.

The bridge, built in 1968, carries 10,500 vehicles per day.

The bridge deck was replaced in August but now crews need to work on the bridge piers.

The entire project will be finished by the spring of 2025.
