Second arrest made in Blue Meadows housing development shooting in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD — Detectives have taken a second man into custody for a shooting in the Blue Meadows housing development that occurred last month.

Police say 20-year-old Daziere Colton was placed under arrest on Oct. 17 by detectives assigned to the Major Crimes Division after being spotted at the intersection of Kempton and Chancery streets, according to a press release.

He faces charges on a variety of offenses, including assault by discharge of a firearm, receiving a stolen vehicle, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.

Charges stem from overnight shooting in which two were injured

The charges stem from a shooting incident that occurred on Sept. 24 during which two victims were struck by gunfire and received non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the area of Matthew Street and Bluefield Street around 11 p.m. on Sept. 24. Further investigation revealed that several vehicles were struck, and the two gunshot victims arrived at St. Luke’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
