Fire at Raynham restaurant knocked down

RAYNHAM, Mass. (WPRI) — Firefighters quickly knocked down a fire that broke out at Hibachi Sushi Buffet in Raynham Sunday afternoon.

Crews responded to the restaurant on Route 44 around 5 p.m. and saw fire and smoke coming from the front.

No flames got inside the restaurant, but smoke did and prompted an evacuation, Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita told 12 News. Nearby stores were also evacuated out of precaution.

LaCivita said it’s believed that a discarded cigarette caused the fire.

The restaurant had visible damage in the font and won’t be able to re-open until Monday after it’s looked at by the building and health inspectors.
