‘It’s violating’: West Warwick church targeted by vandals overnight

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — The Christian Hill Community Church congregation is in shock after their place of worship was vandalized over the weekend.

Senior Pastor Christopher Hart told 12 News it appears the vandals targeted the West Warwick church early Sunday morning.

The vandals smashed the windows of their school bus and attempted to pry open the door to a shed behind the church, according to Hart.

“Someone had to go out of their way,” Hart said. “There’s a lot of intention behind that.”

“There’s a lot of anger in the world,” he added. “We live in times that are filled with volatility and sometimes people just express that anger in ways that are hurtful and disappointing. I feel like this is just one of those times.”

Hart doesn’t believe anything was stolen and he’s unsure how much it will cost to repair the damage.

“This is a sacred space,” Hart said. “We worship here, we pray here and we care for one another here.”

“To know something like this happened in our space — yeah, it’s violating,” he continued.
