PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Stop & Shop stores in Johnston and Providence are closing their doors for good this week.
The Massachusetts-based grocer announced earlier this year that it would be closing 32 underperforming stores in an effort to grow the brand and ensure its stability.

Eastside Marketplace in Providence will officially shutter on Friday. The Stop & Shop in Johnston is slated to close Thursday afternoon.
Stop & Shop has remodeled more than 190 stores since 2018, and the grocer pointed out that those locations have been outperforming their outdated counterparts.
The planned closures come less than a month after Stop & Shop lowered the prices of thousands of products and eliminated the 10 cent paper bag fee.
