PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Scouts in Rhode Island, Southeastern Massachusetts and parts of Connecticut collected more than 88 tons of food during the 37th Annual Scouting for Food drive.
The Narragansett Council said the drive is even more critical now as the demand for food assistance has increased by 20% compared to previous years.
Over the past four years, the Scouts have also raised more than $20,000 in online donations.

The donations were distributed to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank and 50 local food pantries.
“The Food Bank is currently distributing more food than ever before to address the highest demand we’ve ever seen,” Rhode Island Community Food Bank CEO Andrew Schiff said. “The support of Scouting America, Narragansett Council enables us to continue to put healthy, nutritious food on the tables of those who need it most. We’re so grateful.”
