Brush fire breaks out near Providence cemetery

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Firefighters knocked down a brush fire near a Providence cemetery Tuesday evening, according to the city’s fire chief .

Chief Derek Silva said the brush fire broke out in the woods near Lippit Park and Swan Point Cemetery. He said the brush fire burned roughly two acres.

Silva said no one was injured and the fire did not spread to any nearby homes or buildings.

The cause of the fire is unknown, however, Silva said the dry conditions and accumulation of leaves appear to be contributing factors.

Anyone who notices flames, smoke or other signs of a brush fire is urged to call it in immediately so firefighters can investigate and contain it as quickly as possible.
