DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) — The former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building at the Bristol County Jail has been newly remodeled.
It will now be a training academy and new office space for the K9 unit and Special Response Team (SRT).
The Bristol County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) said the new use of space will give the three units the respect they deserve and a visible improvement to the campus.
Previously, the academy was near a noisy garage and the K9 and SRT officers were housed in trailers.
Sheriff Paul Heroux said the work was done by existing BCSO staff and cost about $100,000, adding they outsourced the help and the project could have been closer to $500,000.
The building will be available for other law enforcement agencies to use upon request.
The grand opening is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday on Faunce Corner Road.
