Johnston receives $2 million federal earmark to address chronic flooding

(WJAR) — Federal officials delivered a $2 million earmark to address chronic flooding in Johnston on Monday.

Flooding has impacted communities around the intersection of Atwood Avenue and Hartford Avenue in Johnston Center for decades, according to town officials.

Federal officials said this funding will help configure existing drainage infrastructure and manage the flow of water at the intersection.

“This intersection is so critical to the town of Johnston, and getting the water drainage right and being able to assure proper public safety, continue utility and success of small businesses in the neighborhood, this is where we need to be, this is where the money is going to be spent, and it will make a very big difference,” U.S. Sen.
