WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A judge denied a convicted murderer’s request for a new trial Friday afternoon.
Matthew Dusseault, 27, was found guilty earlier this year of first-degree murder in connection with the brutal stabbing death of 81-year-old Constance Gauthier nearly nine years ago.
Dusseault was taken into custody two years after Gauthier’s body was found underneath a mattress in her bedroom. Investigators believe she was stabbed more than 60 times and her home was staged to look like it had been ransacked.
