Johnston mayor to take property by eminent domain as owners file lawsuit

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The fight over a property slated for affordable housing is now heading to court.

Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena Jr. said the town has secured what it needs to take the property off George Waterman Road by eminent domain and plans to bring it to Providence Superior Court on Wednesday.

“We have to go with the check of our appraisal,” Polisena said. “The check came back at $775,000 for all 30 acres.”
