Nearly 10K properties now listed on RI Rental Registry

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Department of Health has been working to improve the rental registry for landlords and tenants after a rocky start when the website was launched last year .

The rental registry requires every landlord in the state to obtain a lead certificate to prove the home is lead-safe for children.

“We’ve made a lot of strides over the last few decades in decreasing our rates of children with elevated blood lead levels,” said Joseph Wendelken, a spokesperson for the Department of Health. “But even for kindergartners coming into school in 2025, about 400 kids had elevated blood lead levels.”…
