RI State Police troopers ready to run Boston Marathon for charity

LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) — The 129th Boston Marathon is weeks away, and once again Rhode Island State Police will be helping Massachusetts law enforcement keep the marathon route safe.

But some troopers will also be running the 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Copley Square in an effort to raise money for kids and families impacted by cancer.

“We’re really excited to be doing it. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said trooper Daniel Fanous.

Fanous, 29, and his fellow trooper Darnell Sherrill, 39, have never run a marathon before. Both have been with the R.I. State Police for about six years, and have been waiting for their chance to represent the agency in the iconic event…
