Providence Man Arrested in Webster Following Violent Assault and Vehicle Theft

In a recent turn of events, the Webster Police Department has apprehended a suspect following a violent altercation in an apartment on Prospect Street. The incident occurred last Sunday night, and details were posted by the department on social media. According to the Webster Police Department’s Facebook page, Lamech Cotton, a 36-year-old male from Providence, Rhode Island, assaulted a woman using a knife, inflicted several injuries upon her and subsequently stole her vehicle.

The responding officers, identified as Collins, Motyka, Brooks, and Bak, gathered testimony from the victim at the scene. “The victim told Officers that Mr. Cotton held a knife to her face before striking her with the flat side of the knife until it broke,” the Webster Police Department post recounted. Following the assault, Cotton slapped and punched the victim, who was trying to escape until neighbors intervened. The victim was later treated for facial injuries by Webster, the Emergency Medical Services.

After fleeing the scene in the victim’s car, Cotton returned to Prospect Street, whereby Officers Brooks and Collins spotted him. Mr. Cotton led the officers on a foot chase before tripping in a driveway and attempting to scale a fence. The Webster Police Department noted, that Cotton faced multiple charges including Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife), Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Assault & Battery on a Family/Household Member, and Witness Intimidation. Furthermore, the suspect also had an outstanding warrant for Fugitive from Justice on a Court Warrant and an additional charge of A&B on a Family/Household Member…
