Retired Rhode Island state trooper, K-9 deployed to Texas to assist in flood recovery

A retired Rhode Island State Police sergeant and his K-9 partner are headed to Texas to help in the search for people still missing after devastating flash flooding swept through parts of Kerrville last weekend.

Matt Zarella, who led the Rhode Island State Police K-9 unit before retiring after 25 years of service, was invited by the state of Indiana to join a specialized recovery team. Zarella and his certified search dog, Toby, will assist in rescue and recovery operations in the area hardest hit by the deadly flooding.

“Thought maybe I’d put that behind me,” Zarella told NBC 10. “But I think I’ve got one more left. One more in me.”…
