Crime Tracker: Violent crime in Providence down in the first half of 2025

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Data shows violent crime has dropped significantly in Providence in the first half of the year and has been on a steady downward trend since 2022, according to data reviewed by Target 12.

Target 12 reviewed crime statistics from January through June of each year since 2020. The data is only a snapshot from the first half of the year, and violent crime is still occurring in Providence.

In 2020, police responded to 411 incidents of violent crime in the first six months of the year. Violent crime went slightly down to 399 incidents from January through June of 2021, but then spiked to 441 incidents in the first half of 2022…
