Trees topple, streets flood as severe storms push through Southern New England

CRANSTON, R.I. (WJAR) — A fast-moving storm swept through southern New England Tuesday, toppling trees, damaging vehicles and knocking out power for hundreds of residents.

A severe thunderstorm watch was in effect for the entire region through 9 p.m., with a thunderstorm warning briefly issued for Providence County, parts of Kent County and Bristol County in Massachusetts.

In North Providence, several large trees came crashing down on Randall Road, damaging cars and blocking access to homes. One tree landed on top of a van parked in the driveway, shattering windows and crushing the roof…
