AG’s Office Was an Agency Involved In Deadly Force Incident. Now, Investigating It.

On Friday night, a combined group of five state and federal law enforcement agencies ran a sting to arrest a man who police say was engaged in an extended series of text messages soliciting sex from an undercover police officer whom he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.

The agencies involved in the sting were the Rhode Island State Police, the FBI, North Kingstown Police, the Rhode Island Office of Attorney General Special Victims Unit, and the U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), which “collaborated in an undercover operation to arrest the suspected child predator.”

The sting went wrong. A North Kingstown police officer was injured when the man, Alec Perry, tried to escape. He left the site of the sting — the North Kingstown Park & Ride and escaped for a period of time. Perry was later captured at North Kingstown Town Beach. He has been charged with ten crimes, and he was on probation at the time of Friday’s incident…
