‘Catastrophic’: Advocates rally against RIPTA service cuts

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Advocates in Rhode Island rallied against proposed bus service cuts, gathering in Providence’s Kennedy Plaza to voice their concerns on Wednesday.

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is trying to address the remaining $10 million of a $17.6 million deficit for the next fiscal year with service reductions across the state.

The proposed changes will affect routes 1, 3, 4, 6, 9x, 12x, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 50, 51, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59x, 60, 61x, 63, 64, 65x, 66, 68, 69, 71, 72, 73, 75, 76, 78, 80, 87, 88, 89, 92, 95x, 203, 231, 281, 301 and the R-Line, according to RIPTA.
