BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — The Mount Hope Bridge closure may be a hassle for some, but it’s not the first time the bridge has been shut down.
The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) said the bridge will be closed to all traffic through Monday at 5 a.m., weather permitting, for some much-needed resurfacing work.

According to the RITBA, the road surface will be milled, and then an ultra-thin bonded overlay will be applied to make a smooth surface.
The new surface will last for about five years, according to the RITBA. Re-decking the bridge, which was last done in 1986, is included in the agency’s capital projects in the coming years…
