Rhode Island enacts workplace protections for employees with menopause

(WJAR) — Rhode Island is once again making waves, becoming the first in the nation to pass a law enacting workplace protections for employees facing menopause.

State Sen. Lori Urso introduced legislation so women would not have to leave their jobs, allowing them to prepare for retirement.

“The bill adds menopause and menopause related conditions to the Fair Employment Practices law,” said Urso. “So similar to women who are experiencing pregnancy, who are breast feeding. Employers can make accommodations to help them continue at work and perform at their highest levels.”
