BRISTOL, R.I. (WJAR) — A bronze sculpture depicting people impacted by the transatlantic slave trade and their descendants was unveiled at Independence Park in Bristol on Sunday.
The life-size bronze sculpture, named Our Ancestors Come With Us, is the work of Spencer Evans, artist and faculty member at Rhode Island School of Design.
According to the Bristol Middle Passage Port Marker Project Evans was selected for the job “because of his deep connection to the history of slavery and its enduring impact,” noting that he’s descended from enslaved people…
