Zoning Board denies martini bar permit

The Johnston Zoning Board voted unanimously last Thursday to deny a resident’s request to open a martini bar on Atwood Avenue, putting an end to a proposal that has raised the opposition of neighbors since it was introduced in June.

The decision was met with applause from more than 30 residents who had shown up to express resistance to the bar opening in their neighborhood. Those who spoke during the public comment period of the hearing had expressed concerns about potential hazards such as drunk driving.
