Secret’s out: Film on hidden apartment inside Providence mall now streaming

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — After an extensive run in select theaters, the documentary Secret Mall Apartment—which explores how a group of artists covertly lived inside a Rhode Island mall—is now available to stream nationwide.

The film was released on digital platforms Tuesday, inviting a wider audience to encounter the very real, but seemingly impossible, story.

Directed by Jeremy Workman and produced by Jesse Eisenberg, the documentary uncovers how eight local artists managed to reside between the walls of Providence Place, completely undetected for four years.

March 21 marked a full-circle moment as Secret Mall Apartment premiered inside the very mall where the story originated nearly two decades ago. Workman told 12 News they anticipated the film appealing to those with connections to Providence and described the local response as “bonkers.”…
