WWII veteran from East Providence dies at 101

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A 101-year-old World War II veteran from East Providence has died.

Avelino “Chappy” Rose passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, surrounded by his family, according to his obituary.

This comes just days after the East Providence City Council unanimously approved a resolution to rename Carlton Avenue after Rose.

The residential street will now officially be referred to as Avelino “Chappy” Rose Way…
