5-year-old boy hit by RI State Trooper was ‘unfortunate accident,’ Warwick police say

Police in Warwick, Rhode Island, said Friday that an investigation has revealed it was “simply an unfortunate accident” that a 5-year-old boy was struck by an off-duty state police trooper’s vehicle that left the scene a day earlier.

Warwick police began investigating the incident after they were called to Boylston Street around 3 p.m. Thursday for a report of a boy, who had been hit by a vehicle. Responding officers learned the vehicle involved was no longer on scene, and immediately shared the vehicle’s description, which was gathered based on witness descriptions and residential video surveillance in the area.

In a Facebook post at 3:46 p.m. Thursday, Warwick police posted a surveillance photo of a GMC pickup truck, asking for any information on the vehicle that was in the area of Palmer Avenue a short time ago. Police later said they had located the truck…
