Ex-RI deputy sheriff pleads no contest in alleged JWU incident

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A man arrested for allegedly trying to photograph someone in a restroom on the Johnson & Wales University (JWU) campus has been sentenced.

During a pretrial hearing Wednesday morning, Jeffrey Cahoon, 34, pleaded no contest to one count of disorderly conduct.

BACKGROUND: RI sheriff arrested after incident at JWU campus

Cahoon, a now-former Rhode Island deputy sheriff, is accused of attempting to take photos of a woman who was inside the restroom at the JWU Starbucks on Sept. 15. The coffee shop is located on the corner of Chestnut and Pine streets in Providence.

The judge gave Cahoon a one-year filing, meaning the case can be expunged if Cahoon does not break the law over the next 12 months. He was also ordered to undergo counseling and enroll in a mental health program…
