Food bank braces for increased demand amid potential SNAP benefits freeze

(WJAR) — It’s been 26 days since the government shutdown began, and the deadline is Monday for lawmakers to come back to the table and make a deal, or leave millions of Americans without SNAP benefits for the month of November.

This would leave 140,000 Rhode Islanders without food assistance.

If EBT cards aren’t refilled, those in the state facing food insecurity will have turn to food banks. And if food banks aren’t then adequately stocked—people are going to go hungry…
