With fees for lawyers, bankers and consultants topping $77 million, hospital sales lagging and operating losses mounting, the bankruptcy case of Prospect Medical Holdings is starting to worry the judge.
“Gosh, what the heck is going on?” asked North Texas Bankruptcy Court Judge Stacey Jernigan at a live-streamed court hearing on Tuesday, referring to the stalled sale of Prospect’s two safety-net Rhode Island hospitals.
“In all of my years of doing health-care Chapter 11, I’ve never seen one take this long,” Jernigan said of the Rhode Island sale, which has yet to close after eight months due to financing issues. “I want every party to know I’m very concerned.”…
